PHOTOS: Penticton collides with Vernon as Okanagan rugby season begins

The teams play in a summer division with the Salmon Arm Yeti

A new season of Okanagan men’s rugby kicked off in Penticton on Saturday afternoon, May 4.

The Penticton Harlequins and Vernon Jackals collided on the pitch at McNicol Park.

It marked a rematch from the Okanagan Rugby Union’s (ORU) season opener in 2023 when the teams played to a 15-15 draw.

Penticton and Vernon are in a division with the Salmon Arm Yeti. Teams play regular-season games until late June.

The local summer season comes to a close with playoff matches in July, with clubs battling for the ORU playoff trophy.
