The North Okanagan Knights know how to keep their fans on the edge of their seats.
Down 4-0 midway through the first game of their second-round Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoff matchup against the division-leading Princeton Posse, the Knights turned the tide of the game with a powerplay goal that was the beginning of a tremendous 5-4 overtime comeback victory.
The Posse out-shot the Knights 46 to 28 at the Princeton and District Arena on Thursday, March 7, but Knights goaltender Josh Hager’s 42 saves earned his team a 1-0 series lead.
The Posse got first-period goals from Bryton Morrow and Jackson Gush. The home team then added a third goal early in the second off the stick of Justice Loewen, before Jeffrey Stewart tucked his first of the postseason to make it 4-0 with less than nine minutes to play in the middle frame.
However, Knights forward Devin Jameson altered the momentum of the game. He scored the game’s lone powerplay goal and followed it up with another goal that came with eight seconds left in the second period to make it 4-2.
Jameson wasn’t done, as he assisted on a goal by Ian George early in the third period.
Just past the seven-minute mark of the third, Luke Rishaug scored his fourth of the postseason to tie the game at 4-4.
The teams played a tight overtime game with no shots on either net until Cash Anderson cashed in just past the six-minute mark stunned the Posse and giving the Knights an early series lead.
The Knights remain undefeated through the first five games of the playoffs after they swept the Osoyoos Coyotes in four games in round one.
The two teams will play game two of the best-of-seven series on Friday, March 8, in Princeton at 7 p.m.
