March 28, 2021
1933-2021 ~ The family of John Douglas Kightley is saddened to announce his passing in the early hours of March 28, 2021 at the Princeton General Hospital. He was 87 years old.
Princeton was John's home as a young boy and he returned to retire there over 22 years ago. He loved the town of Princeton.
John is survived by his two children, his nephews and nieces, as well as their children in whom John took great interest. He knew them by name and took joy in hearing about their activities.
As well, John had Patrick, his stepson, who remained in contact with him throughout his remaining years.
John will be missed by many. He was well known in Princeton to be the local chatterbox and the king of the one-liners. He was a long-time member of the Princeton Legion and loved animals. He had dogs and birds and watched the deer near his home. Some may remember his brief and short stint as the goal judge at the Princeton Posse games!
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mousa along with the nurses and staff at the Princeton General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care, especially over the past three months. John's last year was blessed because of Princeton's many angels. He would say, "Why do they care for me so much?" with an emotional crack in his voice.
We want to acknowledge Sharon for being there, going above and beyond to make John feel loved when family couldn't be there for him. Thank you, Sharon.
We want to thank Maurice, his neighbour, for collecting his mail on Fridays, doing errands for John, and remaining loyal.
There will be no service upon request.
