The number of new COVID-19 cases in the South Okanagan Similkameen dropped slightly over the last week.
The region saw a total of 522 over Jan. 16 to 22, down from the 548 cases over Jan. 9 to 15 thanks to decreases in Summerland and Keremeos.
The majority of the cases came from the Penticton local health area, and these cases stayed steady at 351 over the most recent week, compared to the 350 recorded over Jan. 9 to 15, according to the BC Centre for Disease Control.
Only Princeton and the Southern Okanagan saw slight increases over the most recent week of data. The Southern Okanagan rose from 83 cases over Jan. 9 to 15 up to 86 over Jan. 16 to 22. Princeton rose from eight cases over Jan. 9 to 15, up to 10 over the most recent week.

Summerland saw the largest drop, going from 81 cases over Jan. 9 to 15, down to 56 cases over the most recent week.
Keremeos’ weekly case count dropped from 26 over Jan. 9 to 15, down to 19 over Jan. 16 to 22.
The South Okanagan Similkameen is currently dealing with five long-term care facility outbreaks of COVID-19, and schools in the region have also been put on alert due to high levels of absences.
