As the Princeton Posse enjoys unprecedented success in the 2022-23 season, some of that must be credited to the play of forward Sean Mitchell, a 20-year-old from Calahoo, Alta.,who leads the team in scoring with 38 points – with 15 goals and 23 assists.

“He’s been one of the drivers for our group offensively and obviously helped our group take some significant strides,” said head coach Mark Readman.

“He’s played some really, really good hockey here, and Sean is a fantastic young man.”

Mitchell, who was named one of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s Three Stars earlier this season, told the Spotlight his line mates Dayton Nelson and Brayden Bablitz deserve equal credit.

“I honestly have to give it out to them.”

Mitchell said the trio enjoys good chemistry.

“We play to each other…It just feels like the puck has been going in for us.”

Hockey is a family business for Mitchell.

His 24-year-old brother Ian is a defenceman for the Chicago Blackhawks and the two grew up playing all kinds of sports together.

Living in a remote, rural area there was little else to do, he said.

“So, we played against each other, just shooting pucks, or basketball or mini sticks.”

In the off-season, Mitchell likes to train, and works at a motorsports business.

After three years with the Posse, he is ready to move forward next year to play for a college team while pursuing a business degree or trade.

Mitchell has a lot of affection for Princeton. “I’ve been really, really happy here. I love it here, especially winning, it’s the best,” he said. “We’re going to do everything that we can to win as many games as possible. After the floods and the fires and stuff, the town needs something to get behind and cheer for.”
