Despite the fact there are 31 wildfire burning across the Kamloops Fire Centre, there is still no campfire ban.
However, one is likely coming soon.
According to Jody Lucious, fire information officer with Wildfire BC, criteria to determine bans includes the number of active fires, forecasted weather, current weather and forest fuels.

Lucas said with a wetter June it’s taken time for the fuels to dry out, so the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes Princeton and the Similkameen, will likely see a ban in effect sometime within the next week.
While open burning of trash or yard waste has been prohibited in the Town of Princeton under bylaw since April 15, there is also no local campfire ban at this point.

Bylaw officer Stephanie Palmer said contained fires are permitted.
“We take our direction [from the Kamloops Fire Centre], she said. “When they implement theirs we will implement ours.”
Palmer added the Princeton Volunteer Fire Department strongly recommends campfires be covered with a grate.
The department also suggests that burners have dirt, a shovel and water nearby.
