Arone Sheriland moved to Princeton from Vancouver to join friends.

Now hopes to join Princeton town council.

Sheriland bought his house here three years, and said it was time to get more involved in his new community.

“Now being actually a property owner, having some real stakes in the game, it made it (important).”

Sheriland is treasurer of the Princeton Community Arts Council, and volunteers at the Princeton Food Bank. In his work place he volunteers his time on the Spectrum Board, which promotes diversity and inclusivity for the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

He’s an avid baker, and also enjoys many different types of artistic mediums, particularly pottery. “I have my own wheel and I like to throw clay.”

He has a degree in political science and history, and also studied German.

Sheriland has worked for 14 years for Telus, where he is a business system analyst and project manager.

“It’s a geek job, but it’s a good job,” he laughed. He works completley remotely from the Similkameen Valley.

“Primarily I work on development for call centre tools – and he admits he’s the one responsible when you hear “transferring to billing” – a job that involves a lot of routing.

In addition to taking in lots of art workshops Sheriland enjoys walking his dog Cinnamon, who is a rescue animal from Our Last Hope in Princeton.
