BREAKING: Further evacuation orders issued in Princeton

UPDATE 5:15:

A mandatory Evacuation Order has been put in place for an additional 49 homes along Princeton Summerland Road north of Princeton. These homes, in the locally called Jura area, were put under an advisory Evacuation Alert on July 7th which has now become a mandatory Evacuation Order. A complete list of addresses and map of evacuated homes are listed below.

Roads within the Order area include Hembrie Mountain Rd, Jura Station Road, Baker Hill Rd and a specific portion of Princeton Summerland Rd.

Princeton Summerland Road will be controlled by the RCMP from 1785 Princeton Summerland Rd to Hembrie Moutain Rd. There is no guarantee that access will be allowed to this section of Princeton Summerland Rd while the mandatory Evacuation Order is in effect.

An Emergency Support Services (ESS) Reception Centre has been set up at the Riverside Community Centre in Princeton at 148 Old Hedley Road. All affected people within the Evacuation Order area are asked to register at the Riverside Community Centre in Princeton at 148 Old Hedley Road or call 250-295-0202 (updated today). Information will be updated at www.rdos.bc.ca. The Regional District Emergency Operations Centre can be contacted at 250-490-4225.

  • The total number of homes evacuated due to the fire north of Princeton are 350;
  • The total number of properties placed under advisory Evacuation Alert due to the fire north of Princeton are 257.
  • As of Noon July 10th, 2017 there were 187 people registered through the Princeton ESS Reception Centre.

As per the BC Wildfire Service, the Princeton wildfire is now estimated at 2,000 hectares, as of Monday morning.

A provincial Incident Management Team assumed responsibility for the wildfire on Sunday.

There are 61 fighters on scene this morning supported by seven helicopters, heavy equipment and related personal.

An extended evacuation order was put in to effect Sunday evening, affecting more than 300 homes.

The Smoky Skies Advisory also remains in effect today.
