The biggest New Year’s story for Princeton and area is just this – there was no news.
According to RCMP Sgt. Rob Hughes, the local detachment received no complaints after 2 p.m. on Dec. 31.
“I’ve never in 17 years seen a New Year’s Eve that was so quiet,” said Hughes.
“One might say it’s extremely abnormal. In as much as 2020 was abnormal…and its closing was exceptional.”
Hughes could offer no explanation as to why police weren’t busier on what is typically a hectic night for law enforcement.
A COVID related provincial health order forbade the sale of alcohol after 8 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, but Hughes said he is unsure if that had any affect on the community.
