It was a weekend of platforms and promises, as politicians and voters headed into the final stretch of the provincial election campaign.
Boundary-Similkameen NDP candidate Roly Russell has committed to funding Vermilion Court’s assisted living program, operated by Princeton and District Community Services Society. Princeton Mayor Spencer Coyne met with leader John Horgan in Oliver last Saturday, and confirmed that decision.
“He already knew about it, so it was an easy conversation to have,” said Coyne, who appeared in public with Horgan and then had a private meeting.
In a statement Russell said: “I’ve been working to ensure that we, as the B.C. NDP, can commit to supporting this organization, and Vermilion Court, in whatever ways possible. I have received a commitment from the party to deliver on one important and simple promise: A re-elected B.C. NDP government will provide the funding the facility needs to make sure they are financially able to continue to provide these additional services.”
Coyne said he was “feeling very optimistic” following his meeting with Horgan.

On Sunday, Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson made a campaign stop at Princeton General Hospital, accompanied by local candidate Petra Veintimilla.
During that visit, a promise to upgrade the hospital was given.
Under the Liberal’s proposed $8 billion Rebuild B.C. plan, “modernizing Princeton hospital is a welcomed and much needed infrastructure project for Princeton and the surrounding area” said Veintimilla in a written statement.
“An elected B.C. Liberal government is committing to modernizing Princeton hospital.”
