Another wildfire has been spotted in the Shuswap, this one east of Malakwa.

BC Wildfire reports the location of the fire as Griffin Forest Service Road, east of Malakwa and south of Eagle River Provincial Park.

As of 1:45 p.m. on Friday, May 19, it was listed as out of control but estimated as spot-sized, about 0.009 of a hectare.

The suspected cause of the fire is lightning.

About 4 p.m. May 19, Fire Information Officer Melanie Bibeau said an initial attack crew was en route to the Griffin Forest Service Road fire.

“We will have a better update once we have some feet on the ground over there,” she remarked.

Earlier on Friday, BC Wildfire reported a spot-sized wildfire burning out-of-control south of Cinnemousun Narrows Provincial Park, west of Malakwa, but that fire has since been downgraded to “being held.” That means it’s not likely to spread beyond predetermined boundaries under current conditions.

Bibeau said Friday afternoon that an initial attack crew was still on site and would monitor or take action as need.

The cause of this fire was unknown.
