Winter driving conditions along B.C. highways.

Interior highways are a mess

Winter driving conditions has prompted DriveBC to issue several warnings for interior highways.

If you’re planning on leaving the house today, it’s best to check DriveBC as highways across the interior appear to be disastrous.

A vehicle incident has closed Highway 8 eastbound 14 kilometres east of the junction with Highway 1 in Spences Bridge. There is currently no estimated time of opening.

More than 20 centimetres of snow is expected on the Coquihalla, Sunday, between Hope to Merritt — a travel advisory is in effect.

Highway 1 has several alerts from DriveBC cautioning drivers of compact snow and slippery sections from Sorrento to Sicamous, Cache Creek to Kamloops and Falkland to Monte Creek.

In the Central Okanagan motorists should watch for slippery sections along Highway 97 from Kelowna to Penticton and on Highway 97A in Vernon to Mara. Highway 97B also has an advisory in effect for Enderby to 6 km south of junction with Highway 1, in Salmon Arm.

If driving along Highway 6EW watch for compact snow from Vernon to Coldstream, from Coldstream to Lumby and Lumby to Cherryville.

Those travelling near Princeton are also warned of compact snow with slippery sections along Highway 3. While sections of Highway 3A  in Keremeos to junction with Highway 97 in Kaleden are slippery due to compact snow.

Highway 97C is also forecast to get several centimes of snow over the next few hours, prompting DriveBC to issue a warning to those headed toward the Pennask Summit.

Westside road also appears to be treacherous, watch for slippery sections from Shelter Cove to junction with Highway 97 North.

Before hitting the highways be sure to check DriveBC.
