At the 19th Annual Rural and Remote Medicine Course, Dr. Michael Whittle of Princeton, was honoured by fellow rural doctors with an award for long and meritorious medical service to his community.
The Society of Rural Physicians of Canada (SRPC) hosts this annual event and this year it took place at Blue Mountain Resort, near Collingwood, Ontario.
Dr. John Wootton, President of SRPC, feels it is important to provide recognition for physicians who have done solid work in rural communities over the years. This award recognizes the long standing contribution he has made to his community.
The criteria for the Rural Service Award is that the physician must have worked in rural and remote Canada for 10 years and they must have been a member of the SRPC for at least 5 years.
The Society of Rural Physicians was established in 1992 and currently has more than 3000 members. Over 500 student, residents and physicians attended the Rural and Remote Conference in Collingwood where the awards were announced.
