Construction on the second phase of a Princeton housing development is “a good news story” for Princeton, according to town chief administrative officer Lyle Thomas.

“We are in a housing a crisis,” said Thomas.

He said town staff is presently in meetings with the developer.

Town councillor Tyler Willis, a local realtor, is one of the owners of the property and the development company, Valley River.

In an interview, Willis said this phase of the project–which is located adjacent to Copper Mountain – will consist of two fourplexes and 10 duplexes.

The original phase of the development was built in 2011, consisting of 12 single-family homes.

A third phase may include apartment-style housing, he added.

The development, called Old Brewery Heights, has not been discussed around the council table, Thomas and Willis confirmed.

“We haven’t had to ask council for anything,” said Willis.

“I’ve thought about it, but I don’t think it’s a conflict because we don’t have to go to council for anything.”

The property zoning was changed in 2011, to accommodate multi-residential homes, before the first phase was built.

There is approximately 4.5 acres of land allotted for the phase two and phase three build-out. About two-thirds of the planned construction will be done during phase two. “I think it’s exciting. I think it’s a great location,” said Willis.

“Princeton needs a lot of different housing and we are excited to do this.”

Building will hopefully begin in August, he said, and homes should be ready early in the new year.

Willis said the dwellings will be priced between $300,000 and $400,000.
