With the goal of no child or teen going without this Christmas in Penticton, local organizers have come together to grow the 2017 Toys for Tots to Teens.
The holiday season is quickly approaching and local businesses Gateway Casinos and Canadian Tire are hosting the community toy drive on Friday, Dec. 1.
Cascade Casino will host a morning breakfast toy drop off at their location from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. There will be a complimentary breakfast provided by The Buffet, while Santa and local school choirs will be spreading holiday cheer in Match Eatery and Public House.
“We know how important the Toys for Tots to Teens is for Penticton, and we’re excited to be involved in making the holidays brighter for local families,” said Michael Magnusson, general manager, Cascades Casino, Penticton. “Seeing this community come together with the goal that every child and teen wakes up to find a present under the tree is so inspiring, it is one example of how the residents make Penticton such a wonderful place to live.”
Later that day, Canadian Tire will be hosting the toy drop off from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with IGA and Tim Hortons providing refreshments.
“We have been proud supporters of the Toys for Tots to Teens for 12 years. We are so pleased to see this event grow with the support of the community,” said Lorraine MacMillan, owner, Canadian Tire Penticton. “The holidays are a special time for kids and their families and we are happy to be able to partner with our national Canadian Tire Jumpstart program to help those in need.”
The Fill The Stocking campaign is back for businesses to fill a stocking for a child in need. LocoLanding is donating 100 stockings and will have volunteers drop off stockings for businesses. If your business would like to Fill The Stocking, please call 250-487-9186 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Toys for Tots to Teens will be working with over 16 local organizations that provide support to families in Penticton in need during Christmas. While the holidays are a celebration, for many it can be a stressful time due to lack of finances. The community is invited to bring a new unwrapped toy on Dec. 1, and start off the Christmas season with an act of kindness and giving.
