Ghosts, goblins, toys in boxes and Jack were among the hundreds of people (?) who traversed the asphalt during the annual Nightmare on Front Street Tuesday.
According to executive director Lynn Allin of the Downtown Penticton Association event organizers, response was overwhelming.
“Oh my gosh, it was three times as busy as last year. It took us by surprise. We had tons of little candy bags and we had Penticton Royalty handing out candy and the Vees were handing out candy and the stores ran out of candy, but it was a lot of fun,” said Allin the following day. “We had 200-250 kids, or more, so it was a huge success.
“There were lots of adults too. I think it’s a really well-received family event — moms and dads and grandparents and the kids.”
Daryl Jones stood head and shoulders above the rest, literally, and was the winner of the association’s most original costume.
Eva Nidle as a chick was the cutest costume winner, the Adams Family was the best theme winners and the best dressed pet was a Raggedy Andy dog (names unavailable).
Members of the Penticton Secondary School dry grad committee were busy barbecuing hot dogs for donations. Kids also had an opportunity to decorate cupcakes with Halloween orange icing.
Many children were also able to take home some of the carved pumpkins which lined the street.
“We had three times as many kids as last year and next year we’ll be prepared for that many children,” said Allin.
