The Revelstoke Grizzlies took control of their semi-final playoff series against the Princeton Posse with a dominating 4-0 win on Tuesday (March 21) night.
The conference final series has swung 2-1 in the Grizzlies favour, with game 4 set to be played tonight (March 22) in Revelstoke.
The first period was an extremely tight-checking contest with both teams battling hard for the all-important first goal.
Jake Wallace got the Grizzlies on the score-sheet first with an amazing shot into the upper left corner on a fast breakaway to put the home team up 1-0.
Before the end of the period, Revelstoke’s own Kurtis Kinoshita doubled the Grizzlies lead with a goal from inside the key.
In the second frame Kesler Fyfe kept the pressure on Princeton, scoring the third goal of the contest on a low shot from the right side that slid under the goalies pads.
The visitors kept skating hard to avoid the doughnut on the scoreboard but could not find the back of the net.
Revelstoke’s Owen Chamberlain scored the last goal of the evening to seal the 4-0 win and send the home crowd into a final celebration.
“We’re just trying to play our system, results will come if we continue doing that,” said Grizzlies defenceman Brandon Gallo after the game.
Grizzlies goaltender Jozef Kuchaslo put on another stellar 32-save shut-out performance in the win. “We’re just taking it one game at a time,” said Kuchaslo. “After three games against Princeton I’m confident in myself, feeling really good in net. They are not gonna want to go down 3-1. Princeton wants to win this as bad as we do”.
After a pair of games on the road, Grizzlies captain Will McPhee commented on how glad he was to be back on home ice.
“Best fans in the league, they always get us going,” said McPhee. “In game 4 we need to just skate hard, play fast, and stay out of the box.”
