A fundraiser to benefit the Esso Cup hosting Thompson Okanagan Lakers girls hockey team will be coming to Vernon on International Women’s Day.
The event, entitled Empowering Tomorrow’s Champions: A Night of Inspiration and Auction will be a mix of networking, insightful discussion and a silent auction, with all proceeds going towards the AAA girls U18 hockey program.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Kimberley Amirault-Ryan, who is a performance consultant to the NHL, NBA and Olympians, with vast experience in sports psychology. She was the first female performance consultant with two of the largest professional sports organizations in North America, the New York Rangers and New York Knicks. She then worked for the Columbus Blue Jackets and Edmonton Oilers along with five Olympic Games.
There will also be a panel question and answer that features local icons Torrie Silverthorn, Mandy Duhamel, Viola Brown and Nicky Dunlop. They will field questions from the U18 Lakers players.
The event will take place on Friday, March 8 from the Kal Tire Place Arena civic room. Tickets are $80, and can be purchased on eventbrite.ca
The Lakers are hosting the 2024 Esso Cup, which takes place from April 21-27. The event brings the top under-18 hockey programs from across the country to compete for the coveted trophy.
