Dear Editor:

A couple of days ago, on Aug. 2, I wrote to council, on behalf of a group of concerned citizens, about the sad state of the walking trail on the north side of Trout Creek from the entrance to the trail on Landry Crescent to Highway 97, the James and Mary Gartrell Trail.

The Trail is in a sad state of disrepair.

It is not passable at some points, it is overgrown with weeds and the like, and the wooden borders to the walkway have broken or washed away entirely.

To my surprise, I immediately got a call from Coun. Erin Trainer, assuring me the necessary repairs would be done this year.

Director of Public Works Kris Johnson followed up and confirmed that Summerland is in the process of hiring a contractor to do the necessary work.

We would like to thank Erin and Kris, as well as the rest of council, for their hard work in obtaining disaster financial assistance for the repairs as well as their prompt action in informing me so that we can get the word out.

Great job by all!

Tom Johnston
