Dear Editor:

Is there any question that Prairie Valley Road between Cartwright and Morrow Avenue is the worst and most dangerous in Summerland?

The road in this area is winding and twisted, which makes it difficult to see oncoming traffic. Yet because of the unbelievable condition of the road, traffic goes from one side of the road to the other in an effort to avoid the worst parts of the road.

You cannot continue to drive on the wrong side of the road before a crash will occur.

Prairie Valley Road is the busiest in Summerland. The road is used by travelers going to Faulder, Princeton Fish Lake, Osprey Lake and local traffic. However, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., it is also used by heavy gravel trucks, garbage trucks, those going to the landfill plus 30,000 visitors who visit the Kettle Valley Railway yearly.

I moved to Summerland 19 years ago and the same potholes are there today that were there then.. I am writing this letter as this is a major safety concern for the citizens of Summerland and needs to be addressed before there is a crash.

I believe that before we worry about a new $50 million swimming pool, much bigger problems need to be addressed. That is the safety of our citizens and the repairs of the majority of our roads in Summerland.

The mayor and council need to get their priorities in the right place.

Glenn Hooper, retired RCMP officer

Summerland
