Dear Editor,

The proposal to build a new swimming pool for Princeton and the Regional District seems to have got a lot of people really fired up.

It is a great pity that so many are distorting the facts by misquoting the hardworking committee who have attempted to gather factual information and present a full explanation of the potential costs, etc.  They have diligently named all their sources and made fair comparisons with similarly-sized communities.

Curtailing sentences and paragraphs may serve to promote the opposer’s point of view, but it does not help the general public to make an informed decision.  Similarly, posting web pages and social media sites with incomplete information and unnamed sources is simply attempting to stir up emotions rather than assist us to make an intelligent, pragmatic decision as to the affordability and need for a new public recreation facility in Princeton accessible to all members of the community.

I sincerely hope that each voter will seriously review the available material and consider the ultimate advantages, or not, of such a facility, and bear in mind that the intent is not to proceed if the government does not assist.

And please let us stop maligning those who are working so hard to research the project in response to frequently expressed requests for such a facility.

Thank-you.
