January 10, 1932 - December 25, 2021
AKA: "Grumpy, Ger, Dad, Garner, Grandpa and The Old Guy," sadly passed away with his loving wife Elsie, daughter Gerri and her family by his side Dec. 25, 2021.
This Old Guy (affectionately called by his great grandchildren) is survived by his wife of 69 years Elsie, daughters Lila (Ray) and Gerri (Dave). Grandchildren, Brett (Christine), Lynn (Shawn), Corey, Clay (Andrea), Fenrir. Great grandchildren, Charlie, Jase, Luke, Jake, and Nova. Predeceased by his mother Aileen, father James, brother Ted and sister-in-law Evelynn.
Dad was born in New Westminster at St Mary's Hospital. He went to school at Trapp Tech and ran track and field. He played lacrosse for the New West Salmon-bellies. He met his girlfriend Elsie and married in New Westminster. They moved to Surrey, where they started their family. Dad and Mom's door was always open for neighbours, friends and family for a visit, a cup of tea or a beer. Dad volunteered with an exceptional team of men with the Volunteer FIRE HALL #3. When he wasn't working at Kelly Douglas, he achieved his St John Ambulance tickets and became a first aid instructor. Then there is his TULAMEEN. There he and Elsie taught their girls to love, learn and respect the outdoors. Many great memories and lifelong friends were created there.
A memorial is being held Monday Jan 10, 2022, 2pm-3pm at Valley View Chapel. A memorial service is an essential service. Masks and distancing will be mandatory. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic the family has decided on no reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Red Cross for all of their efforts in the Forest Fire and BC flood relief.
