Woman believed to have suffered serious injuries after fall

A woman fell about 20 feet into a laneway on the Real Canadian Superstore property Sunday.

A woman who is believed have suffered serious injuries after falling about 20 feet was rescued by firefighters in a narrow laneway on the south side of the Real Canadian Superstore.

A witness at the scene said he was driving along Dawson Avenue and observed the woman running from somebody along the street and jumping over the ledge.

She landed behind a piece of machinery and had to extracted in a basket by members of Penticton Fire Rescue using the ladder truck.

The road was blocked in both directions for nearly an hour as crews worked to get her out.

She was rushed to hospital in an ambulance with a police car using lights and sirens following.

Several RCMP vehicles were also in attendance and at the time officers were still trying to determine exactly what happened.

A distraught man who is believed to know the injured person was also at the scene.

The call for police and ambulance initially came from the Number 2 fire hall which is just a short distance from that location.
