The number of violent crimes in Oliver was significantly higher in the first quarter of 2022 than in the same time period a year earlier.
The RCMP quarterly report, from the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment, showed noticeable increases in violent crimes in the South Okanagan community.

Police recorded 47 assaults in the first three months of this year, up from 19 in the first three months of 2021. Domestic violence incidents also rose significantly from four in the first three months of last year to 10 in the first three months of this year.
Cases of uttering threats increased from 10 in the first quarter of last year to 16 in the first quarter of this year.
Property crimes in Oliver also showed increases in some categories. Thefts from vehicles increased from eight in the first quarter of 2021 to 15 in the first quarter of this year. Shoplifting incidents rose from three to 15, bicycle thefts rose from one in the first quarter of last year to six in the first quarter of this year and other thefts increased from five to 19.
