A Princeton man accused of assaulting a local doctor over a COVID mask will be back in court in November to continue his trial.
Trevor Rhyno appeared in Penticton court July 23, and the proceedings will be moved back to Princeton circuit court November 15.
Rhyno is charged with assault causing bodily harm after he allegedly punched a doctor multiple times at Princeton General Hospital in August of 2022, following an argument over having to wear a mask as required by pandemic protocols.
Witnesses in previous testimony, in Princeton circuit court, stated they saw Rhyno strike Dr. Andrew Ashley outside of the emergency room doors, after he was denied access to the facility because he refused to wear a mask, under COVID conditions.
On November 16, 2023, Ashley testified that he was assaulted, while two other hospital workers, including a nurse, said they observed a violent confrontation.
Ashley required immediate surgery following the alleged incident, it was stated in court.
