The Summerland Museum is looking for artifacts to use in its next exhibit.
The exhibit, to be displayed later this spring, is called Summerland Remembers the Defenders of the Empire.
This exhibit will examine the end of World War I, its effects on Summerland soldiers and the process of adjusting after the war was over.
Museum administrator Claire Macdonald said the idea for the exhibit came from Paul Randall, a researcher and volunteer at the museum.
“He has researched every soldier who has had a connection to Summerland,” Macdonald said.
Randall, a retired major in the Canadian Forces, will also hold special presentations for Remembrance Day and various other special observances over the coming year.
Macdonald said the artifacts will include uniforms and medals from the war.
One person has a journal with a soldier’s notes from the war.
“We don’t want firearms, but other than that, pretty much anything else,” Macdonald said.
The artifacts will be loaned to the museum for the exhibit, which will run for the next year.
The museum is also looking for stories from veterans from World War I. Those who are relatives, neighbours or friends of World War I veterans and can pass on stories of their experiences are asked to contact the museum.
To contact the museum, email info@summerlandmuseum.com or visit the website at summerlandmuseum.com.
The opening of the exhibit will take place on June 8.
