Summerland firefighters called to out-of-control campfire

Summerland firefighters were called after an abandoned campfire spread on the afternoon of April 12.

The fire, in the Trapper’s Flats area west of Summerland, was reported around 3:45 p.m. At this time, it had grown to 15 metres by 15 metres.

A water tender, a bush truck and eight firefighters responded to the call. They were at the scene for around an hour, said Summerland fire chief Rob Robinson.

He added that campfires are permitted must be monitored and extinguished before leaving the area.
