Criminal activity in Summerland showed a slight decrease in 2019, according to information from Statistics Canada.
The data was published on Oct. 29 and shows policing information for communities across the country.
There were 761 incidents in 2019, a drop of 5.44 per cent from the 805 incidents reported in 2018.
Criminal Code violations showed a decrease, to 730 incidents in 2019 from 782 incidents in 2018.
This figure includes all violations, including traffic violations.
However, the number of violent Criminal Code incidents in Summerland has been increasing in recent years.
In 2015, 45 incidents were recorded. The following year, the number rose to 65 incidents, and then to 81 in 2017. In 2018, there were 91 violent Criminal Code violations in Summerland, and last year there were 111 violations.
The Crime Severity Index in Summerland has also shown an increase in 2019. The 2019 figure for Summerland was 104.41, up from 89.00 the year before.
On the Violent Crime Severity Index, Summerland rose from 75.31 to 91.48.
Crimes are assigned a weight based on their seriousness, with more serious crimes receiving higher numbers.
