Summerland bylaw enforcement has busy month in July

159 complaints — 5 a day — received during month

Summerland’s bylaw enforcement team had its busiest month in July with 159 files opened during the month.

The statistics were outlined in a report to Summerland’s municipal council.

So far this year, 641 bylaw files have been opened in Summerland. Of these, 98 still remain open.

Brad Dollevoet, director of development services for Summerland, said the number of new files in July is a concern. The 159 files represent an average of five new complaint files each day, he said.

“Each one of those complaints requires follow-up with complainants, possible investigation and mediation with homeowners to address concerns,” he said. “With only one full-time bylaw officer and part-time, weekend support help, this file workload has been significant and difficult to manage,” he said.

The complaints include 19 Good Neighbour Bylaw complaints, 13 zoning and parks complaints, 16 public land concerns and 28 water regulation bylaw complaints.
