Summerland approves grant-in-aid funding requests

Community organizations receive assistance from municipality

Summerland council has given support to 13 community organizations with grant-in-aid funding for 2022.

The funding was approved at the evening meeting of council on Feb. 14. The following organizations have received grant-in-aid funding.

• Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre, $14,500

• Agur Lake Camp Society, $2,573

• Ryga Festival Society, $7,100

• Friends of Summerland Ornamental Gardens, $8,000

• Boys and Girls Club, $5,000

• Summerland Curling Club, $1,000

• Kettle Valley Railway Society, $1,774

• Okanagan Historical Society, $6,603

• Summerland Figure Skating Club, $1,000

• Trail of the Okanagans, $850

• Summerland Rodeo Grounds Equine Development Society, $990

• Summerland Community Arts Council, $7,500

• Summerland Chamber of Commerce, $7,500 (allocated from the Economic Development Fund)

In addition, four organizations in the community will have their grant-in-aid requests funded through the COVID-19 Safe Re-Start grant funding received by the municipality in late 2020. The Summerland Food Bank, Agur Lake Camp Society, Summerland Curling Club and Summerland Figure Skating Club will receive COVID-19 Safe Re-Start support.

Summerland council also increased the ongoing operational funding to the Summerland Museum and Archives Society by $10,000. Previously, the funding for the society had been $40,000 a year.

The municipality’s annual grant-in-aid process opened in early fall of 2021, with all 2022 applications due by Oct. 31, 2021. The municipality received 16 applications from 14 community organizations. Under council’s policy on this funding, organizations receiving grant-in-aid funding must be registered as a not-for-profit or charity.
