The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has approved the expenditure of $18,000 for the purchase of a snowmobile for the China Ridge Trail Association.

The trail area, near Princeton, was created in 2009 with the Upper Similkameen Indian Band, the Town of Princeton and the regional district each as one-third shareholders.

The purchase was approved at the board meeting on Thursday.

In a report to the board, Bill Newell, chief administrative officer of the regional district said the snowmobile is needed since the trail association’s snowmobiles were disabled following a fire.

The snowmobile is needed to protect riders using the trail system.
