Residents of Osoyoos may have seen heavy smoke clouds rising from the southeast. Those are from two fires in Washington State.

The two fires, the Walker Creek Fire and the Spur Fire, are both located close by to each other and total a combined 1,125 hectares.

On Aug. 11, according to Okanogan County, the fires surged south in the late afternoon, and continued to stay active overnight.

The fires are about 33 kilometres southeast of the border below Osoyoos.

According to the U.S. Incident Information System website, the fires are expected to continue to be driven towards the southeast by the winds.
