Scam artists hit Princeton again

The Princeton RCMP is warning residents to be cautious of companies promising to fix computers over the phone.

The Princeton RCMP is warning the public about a company that is trying to scam residents.

The online company X-Creation, which uses the website www.mywindowsupport.com, is based in India and attempts to sell technical support over the phone to unsuspecting victims, the RCMP said.

Victims allow the caller to access their computer, giving the fraudster complete control of the computer.

Once the victim agrees to purchase the product or service, a form is filled out online with credit card information included. The company is never heard from again.

The Princeton RCMP is reminding residents to be careful when purchasing anything over the phone or Internet.

People with questions or who want to report a scam can call the Princeton RCMP at 250-295-6911 or Phonebusters at 1-888-495-8501.

Scam artists have targeted Princeton residents in the past, online and through the mail.
