The Penticton siblings charged with second degree murder in the killing of Roxanne Louie are planning to have very different trials.

Pier Louis Robotti elected Thursday to have his March 6 trial by judge alone.

When his sister, the great grandmother of the victim’s child, starts her trial two or so weeks later, it will be in front of a jury.

No reason for the different tack was offered during court proceedings that also included two other developments.

First, the Louie family withdrew an application they’d filed to try and keep details of the trial out of public view.

Although they were hoping to shield Louie’s surviving family members from the details of her killing, they decided it was better to have the trial commence sooner than later.

The other application was from Grace Robotti, who was asking to see Louie’s Minstry of Family records. The result of that application is yet unknown.

Roxanne Louie, a 26-year-old single mother and Osoyoos Indian Band member, was killed Jan. 4, 2015.

Since her death, family and friends have gathered countless times outside the Penticton Courthouse displaying signs and wearing buttons with a picture of Louie that read “justice.”

The trial looking into her death was moved to Kelowna last summer.
