Open burning season is postponed until Tuesday, Nov. 15, within five Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen fire protection areas.

The areas affected are Anarchist Mountain, Kaleden, Naramata, Okanagan Falls, and Willowbrook.

The open burning season date has been delayed because of the high fire danger rating and current provincial restrictions.

Open burning is outlined in Bylaw No. 2898, 2020, a bylaw to regulate open burning within the five Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Fire Protection Areas.

Apex and the Village of Keremeos are not part of the open burning bylaw.

If conditions change drastically and the province removes burning restrictions, the open burning postponement will be reviewed.

Residents within the five fire protection areas are required to complete a burn authorization application when open burning is permitted. There is no fee and no permits will be issued. Requests will be directed to the selected fire department. Permit forms are available online under the Permits and Licences tab on the front page of the regional district’s website at www.rdos.bc.ca.

The Public Parcel Viewer will confirm in which Fire District boundary a property is located.
