The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen will purchase a new four-wheel-drive truck to mount a utility crane.
At the regional district’s board meeting on Feb. 4, the board approved the purchase of a Ford 550 Diesel truck from Orchard Ford for $66,168. The truck will carry the crane and cabinetry being built by Brutus Truck Bodies.
The truck will allow staff to safely lift hydrants, pumps and other equipment while undertaking routine maintenance.
In a report to the board, Andrew Reeder, manager of operations at the regional district said diesel engines cost around $9,000 more than gas engines, but are more powerful and will last longer.
