911 needs some new numbers, in the area.
The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS) is seeking a loan of $800,000 to improve its emergency telecommunications system. The dollars will go towards new infrastructure to enhance responder safety, meet operational requirements and comply with industry standards, according to a statement from board chair Mark Pendergraft.
The district is opting to pursue the funds through the Alternative Approval Process (APP), which invites residents to submit objections to the proposal, named the Emergency Service Loan Authorization Bylaw, and thereby avoiding public hearings.
The move affects Princeton, Keremeos, Oliver, Osoyoos, Penticton and Summerland.
Residents have until September 13 to make an objection, and can do that by submitting a signed Elector Form Response to the RDOS office at 101 Martin Street, Penticton If more than 10 per cent of total voters object, it will trigger a referendum, Pendergraft said.
