RDOS concerned about wildfire

The Union of British Columbia Municipalities has provided funding from the Province of B.C. (Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport) to the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) for a 2011 West Nile Virus (WNV) Risk Reduction Initiative in the amount of $293,700.

2011 WEST NILE VIRUS RISK REDUCTION INITIATIVE

The Union of British Columbia Municipalities has provided funding from the Province of B.C. (Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport) to the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen (RDOS) for a 2011 West Nile Virus (WNV) Risk Reduction Initiative in the amount of $293,700.

The purpose of the program will be Mosquito larvicide application, trapping, identification and site surveillance to accurately assess the risk of WNV throughout the RDOS including all municipalities and Indian Bands.

Factoring in the demographics, history, environment, topography, agriculture, outdoor recreation and tourism activity in the RDOS area it is essential that programs to mitigate the presence and occurrence of the WNV are continued.

Public education and tire collection designed to minimize the presence of Mosquito breeding sites will be an integral part of the program.
