Update: More candidates come forward for regional district

Several areas now have multiple candidates in the Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen

Update:

There will be at least three familiar faces around the Regional District Okanagan-Similkameen table.

Three areas have been acclaimed Area A (Rural Osoyoos), Area B, (Cawston), and Area H (Rural Princeton)

Incumbents Mark Pendergraft will serve for Area A, George Bush for Area B, and Bob Coyne for Area H.

The rest of the areas will have elections. Here is a list of candidates. Check back on our websites for profiles on the candidates in the coming days and weeks. The general election will be held Oct. 20.

Residents in Area G and D will also be headed to the polls this municipal election.

Running for Area D will be previous director Bill Schwarz, Ron Obirek and Rodney Penway. Incumbent director Tom Siddon is retiring from politics.

In area G two fresh new faces will try their hand at regional politics. Candidates for those areas are Melodie Kolisnyk and Manpreet Uppal.

There is still about an hour left for candidates to file nominations papers.

The race is on for several areas in Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen.

With just a few hours to go before nomination period closes in this year’s civic election multiple candidates emerged for areas C (Oliver Rural), E (Naramata), F (Okanagan Lake/West Bench) and the new Area I (Kaleden/ Twin Lakes).

The most contenders at the time of this post are in Area F (Okanagan/West Bench) which was Michael Brydon’s area who served three terms at RDOS.

Candidates in Area F so far are Riley Gettens, Rick Hatch, Ashley Jestin and Leah Schulting,

In area E incumbent and current RDOS chair, Karla Kozakevich will face-off against Tim Hodgkinson.

In Area C (Oliver Rural) Rick Knodel the last term’s alternate director for the area will be vying for the director’s chair. Also running in Area C will be Randy Toor.

And in the new area I (Kaleden/Twin Lakes) there are two candidates Subrina Monteith and Gary Vollet.

The nomination period ends at the end of day Fri., Nov. 14.
