More than eight million Canadians have received the Canadian Emergency Response Benefit as the pandemic caused catastrophic damage to the economy and many lost their jobs.

The current state of job losses have many asking the question if now is the time to introduce a universal income benefit.

The financial safety net has become quite a popular theoretical program among Canadians, according to a recent survey by the Angus Reid Institute.

Three-in-five of the 1,510 respondents said they would support a $10,000 to $30,000 annual income.

Thirty per cent outright oppose the idea, while 10 per cent are undecided.

Respondents were also divided nearly 50-50 on whether universal income would discourage people from wanting to work.

What do you think about Canada implementing some form of universal basic income? Let us know in the poll below.
