Police in Osoyoos were busier in the first quarter of 2022 than in the same period a year earlier.
According to RCMP statistics from the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional Detachment, Osoyoos police received 562 calls for service during the first quarter of this year, a 16 per cent increase from the 483 calls recorded during the first three months of 2021.
Violent crimes increased by 43 per cent, from 28 cases in the first three months of 2021 to 40 cases in the first three months of this year. This included 15 assaults reported, up from 12 in the same period in 2021.
Property crimes in Osoyoos increased by three per cent. While the number of cases of mischief to property rose from 16 to 22, thefts from vehicles and fraud incidents both fell. There were 13 thefts from vehicles, down from 21 in the first quarter of 2021, and there were 10 frauds reported, down from 16.
