BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna and Peachland will be without power early Wednesday morning (May 31).
A post to the company’s Facebook page states that equipment damaged by vandalism on the transmission line that supplies power to the West Kelowna and Peachland areas needs to be repaired as soon as possible to ensure the continued safe and reliable supply of electricity to customers in the region.
The outage will take place starting at 5 a.m. and should last less than an hour. It will affect nearly 26,500 customers and BC Hydro apologizes for the inconvenience.
The transmission line is the only line supplying power to more than 60,000 people in West Kelowna, Peachland and Summerland.
It was threatened with possible damage during the Brenda Creek wildfire in 2021 and the Smith Creek wildfire in 2014.
The City of West Kelowna has been advocating for a second source of power since 2007.
