Planned ignitions will bring heavy smoke along Highway 3 within Manning Park on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 1, BC Wildfire Service warns.
Ignitions will remove about 30 hectares of fuel between the Heather Lake wildfire’s perimeter and the Similkameen River, reducing the potential for fire spotting across the river.
The targeted area is on the north side of Highway 3 between the Manning Park Resort and Garret Road for 18.5 kilometres, BCWS added in a Saturday morning tweet.
If conditions are favourable, the ignitions will take place between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
Saturday’s planned ignitions may be visible along Highway 3, they added, and people are encouraged to check DriveBC for updated road conditions.
