A suspected impaired driver is facing a number of charges after allegedly assaulting a police officer following a traffic stop.
Sgt. Andrew Baylis of Penticton RCMP said the incident happened July 20 on Manitoba Street after the officer initiated an impaired driving investigation of the man he had pulled over.
“During the investigation the driver began to fight with the officer and kicked him in the chest,” said Baylis. “The driver managed to get back in the car and fled the scene.”
The driver was later arrested without incident and was released with charges.
The officer was not seriously injured.
