Looking to represent one of the largest and most diverse ridings in the country has one candidate taking their campaign on the road.
Leah Main, NDP candidate for Vernon–Lake Country–Monashee, is going grassroots with a fully outfitted trailer designed to bring her campaign directly to the people.
She left her Silverton home April 3 with the trailer in tow and is stopping in Vernon tonight, April 4 at Namaste Restaurant for a meet and greet from 5-7 p.m.
“With new riding lines stretching from the busy urban centre of Vernon to the rural acreages near Nakusp and beyond, setting up shop in a single location simply didn’t make sense,” said Main. “We’re meeting people where they are — literally.”
The Vernon–Lake Country–Monashee riding spans more than four hours from end to end, with a ferry ride in between.
While some candidates are waiting for donated second office space and may only plan to visit rural areas occasionally, Main has hit the road.
Main is a Silverton councillor, and a long-standing director on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
“I know how critical it is to hear from all voices — not just the loudest or the closest,” said Main. “This campaign is about building a government that works for everyone. That means being approachable, available, and flexible in how we listen and respond.”
The mobile office is equipped to function as a full campaign hub, hosting pop-up events, one-on-one meetings, and volunteer activities in communities across the riding — from city centres to farming communities. It reflects Main’s commitment to rural inclusion, accessibility, and hands-on leadership.
“This is the people’s campaign. We’re not waiting behind a desk for folks to come to us — we’re coming to them,” she added.
Main also has scheduled campaign stops in Lumby and Coldstream, with her mobile campaign schedule announced weekly on social media.
