Mechanical malfunction sparks fire at Kelowna Burger King

A fire broke out at the Orchard Park plaza Burger King location, Kelowna Fire Department confirmed Saturday evening (June 26).

Kelowna Fire Dispatch received several 911 calls around 6:50 p.m. People were reporting flames coming from the roof of the restaurant in the 2000 block of Highway 97N.

Three engines, a command unit, ladder truck and a rescue totalling 15 fire personnel responded with RCMP and ambulance.

The fire was quickly doused and damage was limited to the exhaust system, which is used in cooking.

KFD platoon captain Dennis Miller said the cause of the fire was a mechanical malfunction.
