The provincial government has identified a Kettle Valley Rail Trail bridge structure as needing repair.

The bridge, KV-039, is located on Trout Creek near Summerland approximately 20 kilometres west of Faulder, in Electoral Area “F”. The structure was ordered closed by provincial engineers in the summer of 2020.

Work on the bridge includes repairs to a failing fill slope below an abutment and repairs to a pier which has been scoured by the river. These repairs are being completed under authorization of the Water Sustainability Act, the Federal Fisheries Act and the Forest and Range Practices Act.

Indigenous groups are providing cultural, archaeological and environmental monitoring services for the project.

The bridge will be closed during repairs and the project is being managed by the province under a professional environmental management plan. The province anticipates the works will be completed by the end of April 2021.
