Summerlanders will vote for trustees to sit on the Okanagan Skaha School Board when the municipal elections are held next month.

The election for school trustees will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, the same day as the election for mayor and council.

At present, there are four candidates on the ballot for the school trustee election.

Incumbents Julie Planiden and Linda Van Alphen are both seeking re-election.

Dave Stathers, a retired teacher, and Peter Waterman, Summerland’s outgoing mayor, have also filed their nomination papers for this election.

In the last trustee election in November, 2014, Van Alphen and Planiden were in by acclamation.

In 2011, there was much more interest in school trustee roles, with six names on the ballot.

In that election, Van Alphen and former school teacher Linda Beaven were elected. Other candidates were Dale MacDonald, Terry Green, Christine Petkau and Rob Melle.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Sept. 14 at 4 p.m.
