Town of Princeton residents will need to start tightening their taps and cut back on their water use.
Starting May 15, Stage 1 water restrictions are in effect until Sept. 30, to support responsible water use during the drier summer months. The regulations also address drought management and capital improvement deferment.
Restrictions include an outdoor watering schedule, which allows even-numbered civic addresses to use water on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, while odd-numbered civic addresses are allowed on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. No watering is permitted between noon and 6 p.m. daily or anytime on Mondays.
Vehicle and boat washing is permitted only with a hose equipped with an automatic shut-off device.
Stage 1 restrictions do not apply to anyone watering in compliance with a valid municipal permit, and public sector entities may water lawns, boulevards and playing fields up to three days maximum per week at any time.
According to the town, the benefits of water conservation include:
- reducing peak demand and operating costs
- maintaining water pressure for everyone in Princeton
- preventing more severe water restrictions from being implemented
- reducing the need for expanded facilities and costly upgrades to the water system
"Water consumption will be monitored so that we can ensure that water is available to sustain the future needs of Princeton," the town stated. "These measures help manage our water resources responsibly and ensure long-term supply for both residents and essential services."
