Princeton's Howard Parfitt was the recent winner of $500,000 BCLC draw.

A Princeton man was recently handed the surprise of his life while visiting a local gas station.

Howard Partiff was at Petro Canada on Bridge Street in Princeton — the same place he bought his BCLC ticket — when he discovered he was the winner of a $500,000 prize.

“I thought, ‘No way!’ and went home to double-check the numbers online,” Partiff said.

Partiff says he first shared the news with his friend, who thought he was "yanking her chain."

A celebratory steak dinner is on the agenda for Partiff, in the aftermath of his big win.

He also says he plans to invest the majority of his winnings and looks forward to the overall sense of “relief."

The winning ticket that belonged to Partiff was from a draw on July 8.
